Welcome to WWDIN

Health

Ranging from general health needs to specific disability related needs, the issue of health covers a broad spectrum of rights, entitlements and deprivations. Within it, the disability specific health decisions for persons with psycho-social disabilities are governed by the Ministry of Health under Mental Health Act of 1987. With affordable and easy access remaining an illusion, WwDs’ health needs receive the least priority within the state system and within the families who are the primary carers.

Both CEDAW and CRPD recognise the right for affordable healthcare but CRPD goes beyond that under Article 25 to provide for informed and free consent, reproductive rights, non-discriminatory healthcare, equal access to public health programmes, health insurance and health related rehabilitation, aspects needing incorporation into CEDAW.
